Document accessibility · InDesign and PDF

PDFs a screen reader can actually read.

From an InDesign file or a finished PDF, I prepare documents that blind and low-vision readers can navigate. Correct reading order, headings, image descriptions, tables and working links. Verified in Adobe Acrobat against WCAG and PDF/UA.

Why it matters

Why it’s worth doing

01

It’s required

Public bodies across the EU have had to publish accessible documents since 2019. Since June 2025, the European Accessibility Act extends this to banks, insurers, telecoms, e-commerce and transport.

02

People read them

Blind and low-vision users, people using a screen reader on their phone, older readers. To them an untagged PDF is just a pile of words in no particular order.

03

The design stays

Accessibility lives beneath the surface of the document. Layout, typography and images stay exactly as the designer made them.

Who it’s for

For studios, companies and the public sector

Studios and agencies

Designing annual reports, brochures or catalogues? Send me the InDesign package and I’ll deliver the accessible PDF under your name. Your client never needs to know I was involved.

From InDesign · white-label

Companies

Terms and conditions, price lists, annual reports, employee handbooks. I can fix finished PDFs even when the source file is long gone.

From an existing PDF

Public sector

Authorities, municipalities, schools and hospitals that must publish accessible documents under the EU Web Accessibility Directive (in Czechia, Act No. 99/2019).

    Send the document

A packaged InDesign file or a PDF. Within [X] business days you’ll get a price and a deadline.

  2. 02

    Audit

I review images, tables, links and reading order. Image descriptions come to you for approval.

  3. 03

    Remediation

I set up the structure directly in InDesign or fix the tags in the PDF. The look doesn’t change.

FAQ

Common questions

What does white-label mean?
I work as your subcontractor. You deliver the accessible PDF to your client under your own name; I stay out of the picture.
Will the document look different?
No. I change the structure a screen reader reads, not what the eye sees.
Isn’t Acrobat’s auto-tagging enough?
For simple text, sometimes. With columns, boxes and tables, auto-tagging scrambles the reading order, and it can’t write image descriptions.
Do you work with other languages?
Yes. I work in English and Czech, and after translation I check other language editions too.

Who’s behind it

Tony Jumr, designer in Prague

For over eight years I’ve designed brand identities, websites and print for clients in Czechia and the US. So I know documents from both sides: how they’re built in InDesign, and what happens when a screen reader opens them.

For accessibility work I wrote my own InDesign scripts. They check reading order, headings, alt text, links and language versions, so every review is fast and equally thorough.
